Full-time Job Opening: Project Engineer, Advanced Concepts Group (ACG)
Atlanta, September 10, 2009 — SpaceWorks Engineering, a division of SpaceWorks Engineering, Inc. (SEI), has an immediate full-time job opening for a Project Engineer, Advanced Concepts Group.
SpaceWorks Engineering is SEI's technical analysis, space systems design, and concept evaluation division. SpaceWorks Engineering serves a range of domestic clients in the aerospace industry such as NASA, the U.S. Air Force, and most aerospace prime contractor organizations. There are three operating groups within the division: Engineering Economics, Advanced Concepts, and Space Media. The Advanced Concepts Group (ACG) provides technical assessments such as concept weights, ascent and entry trajectories, propulsion, Computer-Aided Design (CAD) drawings, aerodynamics, thermal protection requirements, and abort assessments. SpaceWorks Engineering can perform both traditional deterministic and probabilistic analyses to explicitly evaluate system risk through uncertainty in key design variables.
Applications are now sought for a new Project Engineer with 5 - 8 years of experience in the aerospace industry. This will be a full-time salaried position. Desirable technical skills include vehicle performance analysis, trajectory optimization, orbital mechanics analysis, thermal analysis, structural analysis/finite element analysis, and/or aerodynamics (including experience with CFD). Project Engineers in the ACG must be capable of leading and managing multidisciplinary aerospace design projects for SEI's diverse set of government and commercial clients. Requirements include not only strong technical analyses in one of the ACG's core specialities, but the abilities to serve as a customer interface, to manage project resources and schedules, and to execute an overall study activity from beginning to end.
Major responsibilities of this position will include:
- Execution of ACG study projects including resource management, adherence to schedule and deliverables
- Interfacing with other ACG personnel in a multi-disciplinary design team environment
- Technical analysis of advanced space system concepts in one or more relevant technical disciplines
- Hold at least a B.S. degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, physics or a related technical field. Additional preference will be given to candidates who hold an M.S. degree and/or a PhD in a relevant field.
- Have at least 3 - 8 years of relevant experience in advanced concept analysis of future space systems, with emphasis on multidisciplinary systems analysis and preliminary design
- Have a particular knowledge in a core discipline for the ACG such as vehicle performance analysis, trajectory optimization, orbital mechanics analysis, thermal analysis, structural analysis/finite element analysis, and/or aerodynamics
- Have strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral)
- Be a U.S. citizen
- Be familiar with one or more computer programming languages such as Java, C, Fortran, VBA, or .net
- Be familiar with office productivity tools such as Microsoft Project, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint
Starting salary will vary depending on experience and qualifications, but is scoped to be in the broad range of $60,000 - $90,000 per year. Employee benefits such as paid vacation, health insurance coverage, participation in SEI's 401k plan, and paid holidays are also included. Qualified candidates are encouraged to apply by sending a cover letter and a current resume to jobs@sei.aero. Please mention position ID "ACG-1" in the subject of your email. U.S. citizens only.
