SpaceWorks Engineering Announces the Addition of Ms. Elizabeth Buchen to Engineering Staff

Atlanta, October 23, 2009 — SpaceWorks Engineering, a division of engineering consulting firm SpaceWorks Engineering, Inc. (SEI) announces the addition of Ms. Elizabeth Buchen to its engineering staff. Ms. Buchen will assume the role of Cost Engineering Specialist and support activities within the Engineering Economics Group (EEG).

Ms. Buchen’s work with SpaceWorks Engineering will include support for its customers in the areas of cost estimating, probabilistic assessment of cost risk, and integrated life-cycle economics analysis. Ms. Buchen will immediately contribute to cost estimating for SpaceWorks Engineering’s NASA and Air Force customers to guide conceptual design of multi-stage-to-orbit space access vehicles, including hypersonic reusable launch vehicle concepts. In addition to this and other economics analysis, Ms. Buchen will provide general conceptual design support to both government and commercial clients.

Ms. Buchen’s background and experience make her an immediate asset to the Engineering Economics Group. As a Student Researcher and Research Assistant, Ms. Buchen performed in-depth cost estimating for Mars Design Reference Mission 3.0 and supported the NASA Langley Lunar Architecture Team with lunar exploration cost analysis and visualization. Her additional engineering experience includes reusable launch vehicle aerodynamics analysis for NASA and leadership of a student design team in system concept feasibility for a flagship mission to Titan and Enceladus.

“With her combination of aerospace engineering training and economics experience, Elizabeth is an ideal addition to the Engineering Economics Group,” said Mr. Dominic DePasquale, Director of the EEG. “SpaceWorks Engineering is able to offer superior services for its customers in the assessment of program metrics, such as life-cycle cost, operations, and reliability, because of exceptional staff like Elizabeth who understand both the technical and programmatic aspects of aerospace design.”

Ms. Buchen is an accomplished graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering. At Georgia Tech, she was the recipient of multiple competitive scholarships and graduated with Highest Honors.
