Atlanta, August 1, 2010 — SpaceWorks Engineering, Inc. (SEI), an Atlanta-based aerospace engineering design and analysis firm, celebrated its tenth year of operations Sunday. In addition to its Atlanta headquarters, SEI also operates a field office in Washington, DC. SEI was founded on August 1, 2000 by John and Melinda Olds while Dr. Olds was a professor of aerospace engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Dr. Olds currently serves as the company's Chief Executive Officer.
“It's a big milestone, and one that we are quite proud of,” said Dr. Olds. “The vast majority of startup companies don't make it this far. We've been very lucky to have some great customers over the years and wonderful, hardworking employees who make the whole thing work. We've been able to grow and thrive in a competitive industry, and I'm very proud of the positive impacts we've made over the last decade."
"Since our modest start in 2000 with just two employees, SEI has grown into a $2M per year company and is considered one of the leading firms in our field. We're looking forward to entering our second decade of operations. With the pending retirement of the Space Shuttle, and the emergence of new commercial ventures, new destinations for human exploration, and breakthrough space technologies, the aerospace community is poised for a rebirth of sorts. Lots of what we know about this business is about to change. With these changes will come opportunities for small, agile firms like ours that are able to adapt and get out in front of the competition."
SEI operates three divisions that each offer a particular service or product to the space industry. SpaceWorks Engineering is the oldest of the three and provides engineering design services to customers at NASA, the US Air Force, and major aerospace prime contractors. A sample of recent design projects includes human space exploration missions, hypersonic spaceplane design, design of reusable booster stages, evaluation of revolutionary new space technologies, and spacecraft concept development.
SpaceWorks Commercial, which operates out of SEI's Washington, DC office, offers services and partnerships to the emerging entrepreneurial space community and international clients. SpaceWorks Commercial also advocates for new commercial space activities such as nano-satellites, space tourism, and space solar power that will lead to market-driven space ventures in the near future.
SpaceWorks Software develops and sells custom aerospace software products in propulsion, cost analysis, flight mechanics, and optimization. SpaceWorks Software currently sells eight separate software products that are in use in leading businesses and academic institutions worldwide.
